Welcome

Welcome to the Bath & Shower Screen site.
In a home the bathroom or shower room is one of the most noticed rooms in a house. It is common for homeowners to evolve their bathrooms and just like you would a home entertainment or a master bedroom.
While some bath and shower rooms are utilitarian and functional, some are a personal retreat that indulge and pamper occupants with amenities such as steam showers, whirlpools, television, saunas and even fireplaces. Some home owners design bathrooms that are positioned to look beyond the bathroom walls and take advantage of fine views of the surrounding outside environment.
However as each and every room in a household has a main function bathrooms and shower rooms are used for taking baths and showers. It is important for every home owner to have an attractive bathroom/shower room that is also safe and easy to clean. The last thing we would want is to have a bathroom that has wet floors due to sprays and splashes of bath and shower water. Whether you have a bath, installed over bath shower or a shower a barrier would be necessary to avoid water escaping onto to the floor.
The most convenient method to avoid water escaping is to have a shower curtain or bath screen or even a out of sight shower barrier. Bath and shower curtains come in a numerous form of designs and styles all serving one function which is keeping water inside the shower and bath.
Frameless shower screens are attached to a wall with a hinged bracket enabling the screen to pivot outward to allow access to taps and cleaning. It is possible to pivot them inside the bath but the screen will lie flat against the wall if there are no taps of shower accessories in the way and also if the bath is wider than the screen.
Arched shower screen are cheaper to buy however not very obstructive making them not very suitable for power shower as they only shield one third of the bath length from splashing. if your bathroom is small in size it is wiser to go for a frameless screen that is clear glass as this would make the bathroom look bigger.
Double shower screens are wider shielding the bath over half its length. Double shower screens cost more than single glass screens and have similar short comings. Many bath shower screens open out into the bathroom so it is important that there is no protrusions such as basins that not only cause damage but prevent the screen from opening fully.
If you have a corner shower or bath corner bath and shower screens are ideal. Though folding screens can be used on corner bath and showers this is not always possible. Particular models have hinge systems that allow the screens to follow the curve of a bath but many will not allow segments to open past 180 degrees therefore can only be used on straight baths. It is recommended that you check suitability for the kind of installation before purchasing a shower/bath screen.

Shower curtain is a real pain!
June 20th, 2010We have a new shower curtain, and it is driving me crazy! It keeps floating away from the side of the bath and sticking to you in the shower. Also, it is only a few weeks old and i can already see it’s getting mouldy. What can I do?
Paul – i will answer this in two parts:
1. The reason the shower curtain is moving towards you in the shower is the heat from the shower trapped in the shower space is making the cooler air in the rest of the bathroom pull in. The ways to stop this are… Leave a small gap to let the air circulate. Weigh down the shower curtain with some big shampoo bottles or bath products. Buy a heavier shower curtain.
2. The mould on your shower curtain is just a fact of life I’m afraid. It happens to the best of them. You can make sure your bathroom is well ventilated and that the steam does not stay too long after your shower. This will prevent the mould. Make sure when you purchase a shower curtain it says mould resistant. And try to keep the curtain dry. It will not stop mould completely – but all the tips will help.
